Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks are now called Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks.
You may need to check someone’s criminal record if they apply:
- For certain jobs or voluntary work, e.g. working with children or in healthcare
- To become an accountant, care worker, dentist, doctor, financial adviser, nurse, social worker, teacher etc
- To foster or adopt a child
There are different rules for getting a criminal record check in Scotland – Disclosure Scotland PVG Scheme and Northern Ireland – Access NI.
An Enhanced DBS check will reveal a person's criminal history, including spent and unspent convictions. There may also be additional information that is relevant to the post.
